So I finally got around to purchasing and installing a mobile radio in my truck. I went with an Alinco DR-735T. I didn’t really need digital modes like DMR while I’m mobile, so I chose this radio.
I currently have it remote mounted and connected to two RoadPro RPSP-15 speakers for audio. The antenna is a Larsen NMO2/70B.
So I am currently working on putting together a mobile HAM radio box. I recently picked up an interest in amateur radio and purchased an Anytone D578 tri-band mobile radio. My plan is to start out with a UHF/VHF radio and later on purchase a HF Icom IC-7300 or similar.
I remember as a kid my mother had given me and old Realistic SW-60 shortwave radio. I used to listen to it late at night and try to find the furthest signal from me that I could tune in. I remember several times being able to locate transmissions that came from other countries thousands of miles away. I also remember hearing all of those old Motel 6 commercials and Art Bell on Coast to Coast AM.
I suppose that is what started my interest and it wasn’t until just recently that I picked it up again. I think it will be interesting and sentimental to try finding far away broadcasts again.
